Q. Can I exchange my old computer for a new one?

A.

Sometimes. If your computer is less than three years old, it may be a candidate for a trade in, but if it is older than three years, it probably has little or no market value. You can bring in computers that fit our trade in guidelines for and “Evaluation for Purchase”. We will check the system in, run diagnostic tests on it and make you an offer on the system if we have a need for it.

Q. What should I do with my old computer?

A.

You might consider keeping it as a second computer, donating it to a charity or dropping it off to any of the three Computer Exchange locations for Electronic Recycling. Each Computer Exchange location is a certified Electronic Recycling Center, processing about 5000 lbs of computer equipment each week. When you drop your computer off for recycling, you are diverting substantially toxic substances from our landfills.

Q. How does a Computer Exchange custom built computer compare in price to an “on sale” name brand?

A.

At the very lower level, an advertised name brand will be cheaper. We could build them that cheap, but we choose to use quality power supplies and motherboards, which mean our computers are better products than the “advertised specials” that you see.

A Word About Price: In the retail world of computers dominated by big box stores, the large companies have a simple, competitive formula: They try to offer the largest amount of Ram Memory, the largest Hard Drive and the fastest Processor at the lowest price. This formula results in these computer companies compromising on the important, unseen parts of the computer such as the power supply, cooling system and motherboard. At Computer Exchange, we start with a quality power supply and chassis and assemble a computer around a quality motherboard such as ASUS or GIGABYTE, known for their robust balance of speed and stability. We will not sacrifice quality to hit some imaginary price point designated an accountant working for a giant corporation. Over the life of the computer, this value bears about as customers realize that the bargain computer of today might only have a useable life of 18-24 ,months if even that. It’s really all about how much does it cost you per year to own a reliable, useable computer? Also consider the down time and hours of frustration that occur when technical support is half a world away. A Computer Exchange custom built computer represents an outstanding value compared to any other product in the marketplace.

A Word About Apple Products and the Computer Market Place in General: Apple Computer Products represent about 6% of the global computer market. Apple products are very nice products and offer outstanding technical support. If you closely compare Apple Computers and say a discount superstore, you will see an interesting spectrum. On one end, you find very inexpensive computer systems with pretty much no customer service or support at all. Technical help and support are almost entirely telephone based and located usually overseas. At the other end of the spectrum, you fin Apple Products that are well engineered and offer very, very good technical support. They have built into the price of the product a very good amount of technical service and support. But their products, from the average consumers perspective seem very expensive. Somewhere in the middle, you will find independent stores such as Computer Exchange that offer Microsoft Windows based computers built with quality product and very good technical support. It’s ultimately up to you, the consumer to decide which end of the spectrum you wish to be on. For fifteen years, customers have been choosing Computer Exchange for service on their computer systems and for new systems. We feel that we represent the best value. Visit one of our stores and feel the difference our customers experience every day at Computer Exchange.

Q. What is your Recycle Program About?

A.

Computer Exchange is a 100% recycle organization. We ensure that all end of life electronic components are properly disposed of and diverted from our landfills.

We are partnered with Creative Recycling, a North Carolina based facility that processes product shredding and deconstructing the product in an EPA approved facility.

Each Computer Exchange location is a drop of location for computers and other electronic equipment during regular business hours of Monday through Friday from 10AM to 6PM and Saturday from 10AM to 4PM.

If you need assistance getting the product out of your vehicle, please let one of our staff know. Also, if you are bringing more than five pieces at one time or have larger amount, please speak to one of our managers so that we can arrange to assimilate the product.
